About Us

Safer Water ProjectThe Global Health and Education Foundation (GHEF) and the WaterLeaders Foundation were founded in 2005 after the tremendous success of the Wheelchair Foundation which was founded in 2000. They are all headquartered in the east bay of San Francisco, California. Together the three distinct organizations make up a nonprofit network dedicated to eliminating water-related disease, providing hope, mobility and freedom and expanding basic education and economic development opportunities.

GHEF provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and partnership development and coordination. WaterLeaders Foundation evaluates the water needs of communities then equips, trains, and enables non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social institutions to effectively treat and provide safe drinking water and health education to its members. The Wheelchair Foundation creates awareness of the needs and abilities of people with physical disabilities and delivers a wheelchair to every child, teen and adult in the world who needs one, but cannot afford one.

Our beneficiaries and customers are citizens of under-served, urban and rural areas of the developing world. Our partners will include local companies, multinational corporations, NGOs, and government agencies.
